Western Star X-Series to Shine at Brisbane Truck Show

9 May 2023

Western Star Trucks will showcase the all-new X-Series at the Brisbane Truck Show next week. The most tested Western Star ever, the 47X, 48X, and 49X models comprising the X-Series will be on display.

Highly versatile, the 47X has a short, sloped bonnet that yields payload flexibility, a set-back front axle, up to 72.5 tonnes GCM, and comes in either a 6×4 or 8×4 configuration and with the choice of Cummins or Detroit power under the hood.

Exclusive to the Australian market, the 48X is powered by the Detroit DD13 Gen 5 or DD16 engine, is available to over 130 tonnes GCM, features a set-forward front axle, has a bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) measurement of 113 inches, and a choice of four sleeper cabins.

The toughest of the tough, the 49X is powered by the Detroit DD16, has 200+ tonnes GCM capability, and is available with multiple cabin options, including the largest cab on the Australian market, the 72” Stratosphere sleeper.

“After first unveiling the X-Series late last year, in conjunction with our dealer network, the X-Series has been on tour around the country, giving existing and potential customers a chance to get behind the wheel and experience the X-Series difference for themselves – and we are hearing awesome feedback,” said Craig Lee, executive general manager of on-highway, Penske Australia.

“Designed from the ground up, our Western Star team has worked closely with Daimler Truck North America to ensure we have the ideal solution for our Australian market, including the exclusive 48X, which was developed specifically for us.”

Featuring a powerful integrated driveline, an advanced safety package, and superior comfort, even in the most rugged applications, the X-Series is underpinned by the legendary durability that customers expect from a Western Star.

“In the X-Series, we are offering customers the complete package and that includes the customisation that has come to be expected from Western Star,” said Kurt Dein, head of Western Star Trucks, Penske Australia.

“Across the series, we are offering the 330-380hp Cummins L9, 450-525hp Detroit DD13 Gen 5, and 500-600hp DD16 engines. Customers also have the choice of the Detroit DT12, Allison fully automatic, and Eaton Fuller manual transmission, as well as a host of standard, mid, and trench sleeper options.

“With Active Brake Assist 5, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, side guard assist, tailgate warning, brake hold mode, an improved visibility package, and a RollTek driver’s seat with rollover restraint and a seat-mounted airbag all available, the X-Series has the most advanced safety features on the market, maximising safety for occupants and other road users.

“The driving environment inside the cab is supremely quiet with premium noise and temperature insulation and triple door seals. And the multi-function steering wheel and primary instrument cluster deliver a highly intuitive workspace with everything the driver needs at their fingertips.

“Lighter, safer, stronger, and more spacious than any Western Star before, the X-Series builds upon its legendary heritage of being seriously tough and now takes that to the next level.”

Brisbane Truck Show attendees can see the all-new X-Series on stand 54 in the main hall as well as in Technology Alley on Little Stanley Street and at the South Bank Piazza, where Western Star will sponsor the 2023 HVIA National Apprentice Challenge.
